Medicine Wheel Teachings

Held every 1st Saturday of the Month from 1-4pm
First Class Starts August 2, 2008

The newly forming Snake Clan Medicine Wheel teachings will be taught by Roy Wilson (Grandfather) the Spiritual Leader and Storyteller of the Cowlitz tribe and Kyle Ward who will teach how to contact the spirit helpers of the medicine wheel by journeying to them to help you in every day ordinary life to ask for guidence, learning and assistance.

Roy is also a published author and a former minister. Currently there are 38+ active Clans of Roy's teachings across the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe with a gathering of the Clans at least once a year here in the PNW. We are truly honored that he has agreed to help us establish this new clan.
Please bring your drum and/or rattle, bottle of water, an open mind and heart to hear Roy and Kyle as they teach the medicine wheel while weaving the traditional Native American ways and beliefs with other cultures for a greater understanding of walking the

with Creator.

The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the city manager and city council with respect to the best methods of insuring the growth, development and expansion of the municipality. The commission performs administrative functions including the holding of hearings on subdivisions, comprehensive plan and zoning amendments.

The major responsibility of the Commission is to identify and actively encourage the conservation of the city’s historic resources by initiating and maintaining a register of historic places and reviewing proposed changes to register properties.

It also raises community awareness of the city’s history and historic resources, and serves as the city’s primary resource in matters of history, historic planning, and preservation.

Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups provide a consistent and caring place for people to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with dementia. Recognizing that some caregivers find it challenging to access traditional support groups, the Chapter has launched a telephone support group that offers the benefits of a traditional face-to-face support group without the need to leave home. Ultimate Frisbee is a co-ed mixture of soccer, football, and basketball- but with a disc. It's a running sport on a soccer field cut in half length wise, you score in an end zone like football, and you defend like you would in basketball. Its a lot of fun and great excercise. Children with disabilities will have a chance to reel in a lunker during a special fishing event July 11 at Merwin Fish Hatchery east of Woodland.

The 11th annual Merwin Special Kids Day, expected to draw more than 100 participants and their families, is sponsored by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Pacific Power and C.A.S.T for Kids.

The wheelchair-accessible hatchery waters will be planted with up to 5,000 trout ranging in size from one to four pounds. Volunteers will serve as one-on-one fishing coaches, assisting youngsters throughout the day.

Rods, reels, tackle and T-shirts will be provided for the young fishers to use and keep. A free barbecue lunch will be served, followed by fish painting, a casting contest and other activities.

Instituted in 1999, the annual fishing event draws youngsters from the Vancouver School for the Blind, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Emanuel Legacy, Kaiser Kids and Shriners hospitals, but sponsors encourage anyone with a special-needs child to join in the fun.

Pre-registration for the event is required by June 30. To sign up a participating child or to volunteer, call (800) 899-4421.

This is an event to remember our loved one, Richy Bryan, who passed away on April 21, 1997. We are walking to support a local organization called "Project SUCCESS." All proceeds from t-shirt sales and donations will go to this program in our local community. Please check out the website. Even if you didnt know Richy but have been affected personally by drugs and alcohol, you are invited to participate and/or donate to this wonderful cause. The hope is to bring awareness to this valuable program which works with middle schoolers in our community who are at risk or are being affected by drugs and alcohol in their lives. This year’s line up features The Thirsting, an uplifting rock band from Vancouver, WA, The Life Teen Praise and Worship Team, a worship ministry from Kelso, and other contemporary Christian bands. Come and enjoy the fellowship on their large lawn! You bring your friends and a lawn chair; they will bring the music! At Tuesday’s Kelso City Council workshop, a community task force will present its recommendations on how to improve the city’s image, stimulate its economy and revitalize downtown.

The Kelso Community Assessment Task Force is helping decide which of a marketing consultant’s recommendations to adopt and what else should be done to improve the area.

The city paid Destination Development of Seattle $10,000 to evaluate Kelso. Company representatives visited Kelso in March 2008 and later presented its findings to city and county officials and community members.

Tuesday’s 6 p.m. workshop is at Kelso City Hall, 203 S. Pacific Ave. It is open to the public.

This year’s Go 4th Festival will feature its first-ever "King of Sk8" skateboarding competition, which takes place today at Cloney Park.

Competitors will vie for prizes in beginner, intermediate and advanced brackets. Bleachers will be set up for viewing, free lunch will be offered to competitors and canned food donations will be collected for local food banks.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the park’s skating area off Washington Way. The free event is open to all ages and skill levels.

Generally speaking, community input is taken at approximately 6 p.m. However, anyone wanting to speak to the School Board may actually request a specific time between 5:30 and 8 pm by simply phoning the district office (501-2940) a day or two in advance. The board generally meets in room 217 of the middle school, 615 Front Avenue South.
